The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) owns the Hajj Village and is building it, according to President Felix Kwakye Ofosu, spokesperson.
He noted that no government funds were being used for the endeavor.
“FACT: The Hajj Village is primarily an Airport Terminal Building for check-in and pilgrim facilitation owned and being built by the Ghana Airport Company. Not a pesewa of tax payers’ money involved,” he wrote on X on Sunday, March 2, 2025.
The Minister of Government Communications stated in a follow-up post that the Ghana Airport Company creates and runs air travel facilities for financial gain. One such location is the Hajj Village.
On Friday, February 28, President John Dramani Mahama formally cut the sod for the new Hajj Village’s development.
Since then, inquiries concerning the project’s funding, goal, and purpose have been made by the general public.
The Hajj Village is designed to make it easier for Muslim pilgrims traveling from Ghana to perform spiritual ceremonies in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
