The Japan International Cooperation Agency’s Chief of Mission Pays a Courtesy Call to the Foreign Affairs Minister

Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP), Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Ms. Momoko Suzuki, Chief of Mission of the Ghana Office of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), discussed the projects JICA is working on in Ghana.

Ms. Momoko Suzuki informed the Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa during a meeting that JICA is working on projects related to trade, education, agriculture, and infrastructure development.

Ms. Suzuki also mentioned that JICA intends to assist Ghana with a number of other projects, including disaster relief, addressing the consequences of soil erosion, developing drugs to treat schistosomiasis, also known as bilharzia, and an educational initiative to enhance learning results.

Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP), Minister of Foreign Affairs, expressed gratitude to the Japanese government for its support of Ghana’s development through JICA.

He spoke in detail about infrastructure development projects, particularly in the Ashanti and Northern Regions.

This includes building a bridge to link Ghana’s Eastern and Volta regions with the Greater Accra region.

He also brought up the recent agreement on the expansion of electrical infrastructure in the Northern Region and the agricultural projects, particularly the rice farming project.

Regarding education, the Minister praised JICA for the scholarships it provides to Ghanaians and urged them to carry out initiatives that help kids develop their soft skills in addition to the science and math they were already funding.

Both parties agreed to improve ties at the end of the meeting, and JICA promised to keep helping Ghana develop its infrastructure.
