Osahen Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader in Parliament, has praised Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the recently elected flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), for what he called a genuine attempt to foster unity within the party after its presidential primary.
The Minority Leader praised Dr. Bawumia’s “commendable” stance following the hotly contested primaries.
“Let’s be honest, the posture of Dr Bawumia, in my view, has been commendable; all of us must understand that we’re one party.”
“In all sincerity, I have seen a certain posture in Bawumia expressing his desire to work with all in the party,” he reaffirmed.
On February 16, 2026, the former Vice President was praised by the Minority Leader, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Effutu Constituency, on the Channel 1 TV show “The Point Of View.”
He called on all party supporters to put the just concluded internal struggle behind them and return their attention to a common future.
“All of us must understand that we’re one party. In all sincerity, I have seen a certain posture in Bawumia expressing his desire to work with all in the party,” he stated.
Osahen Afenyo-Markin urged patience and empathy, acknowledging that party members might still be struggling with the psychological effects of the presidential primary.
We must allow ourselves the time we need to recover and re-align psychologically. He emphasised that leadership must make a conscious effort to promote reconciliation, saying, “It’s for the winner to look at the numbers.”
After the primaries, supporters require time to regroup and re-align mentally, the Minority Leader continued.
“We need to give ourselves time to heal and align psychologically. It’s for the winner to look at the numbers,” he said.
The Minority Leader also called on everyone to “stand together behind our flagbearer, Dr. Bawumia, and win power in 2028″ during the Thanksgiving Service.”
He underlined that unity and resolve will be crucial to the NPP’s electoral chances and urged party members to maintain their discipline and resolve.
