Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang met with the National Inland Canoe Fishermen Council to discuss issues impacting their members, particularly the welfare and dignity of women in the fish trade.
Since its foundation in 1983, the Council has been a key advocate for improved livelihoods and poverty reduction in inland fishing villages.
The government is also committed to supporting grassroots projects that improve people’s lives.

They discussed the pressing need to give women somewhere to sell their fish that are secure, orderly, and respectable.
The concept of a fish mall was investigated as a workable and revolutionary solution in this area.
When completed, this facility would boost the local fishing industry while providing women with a safe space to trade, add value to their goods, and increase their earnings.
The planned mall is an example of inclusive development and making sure that all facets of society benefit from economic advancement. Working with the Council and other interested parties to create a more equitable economy is the goal.
