The Ghanaian Armed Forces have received 14 Puma M36 armored vehicles from the United States.

They belong to a group of people who were deported to other African countries instead of Niger.

The vehicles were transferred on behalf of the US government by US Ambassador to Ghana Virginia Palmer at an official handover ceremony on Thursday, May 8, at the 153 Armoured Regiment, Abuga Square in Burma Camp.

She emphasized in her speech how crucial it is to protect Ghana’s northern border in light of the region’s changing security threats.

Through ongoing collaborations, capacity-building programs, and the supply of vital resources, she underlined the US commitment to helping Ghana improve its defense capabilities.

Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Ghana’s Minister of Defense, spoke at the ceremony and thanked the US government for its assistance in advancing regional and international peace.

He reaffirmed Ghana’s pledge to keep the donated cars in good condition.

Forty members of the Ghana Army’s 15 Armoured Brigade and the Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Corps successfully finished a four-week orientation course centered on the use and upkeep of the recently purchased vehicles prior to the handover.

The course was held at the 153 Armoured Regiment headquarters and ended on Friday, May 2.

It was organized through the Office of Security Cooperation at the US Embassy in Ghana and facilitated by AMENTUM, a defense contractor based in Virginia.
