A formal investigation into the failure of various Ghanaian banks and financial organizations during the previous administration has been ordered by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, according to President John Mahama.
The probe is a component of the administration’s broader effort to restore trust in the country’s banking industry and increase transparency.
Marking the end of his first 120 days in office, Mr. Mahama spoke to the nation on Wednesday, May 7, and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to maintaining accountability in the financial sector.
He stated unequivocally that individuals found accountable for the shortcomings of the previous government would be held accountable.
“The Minister of Finance, Dr. Ato Forson, has launched an inquiry into the collapse of indigenous banks and financial institutions. Make no mistakes, facts will be unearthed, culprits will be punished, and lessons will be learned,” the President said.
Mr. Mahama hopes to dissuade future misbehavior by sending a clear message to stakeholders that malpractice and poor management will not go unpunished by pledging to punish wrongdoers.
