The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has donated relief items valued at $1 million to Ghana to support communities and individuals affected by the recent flooding across the country.
The donation, presented by H.E. Rashid Al Shamsi, Executive Director of Operations at UAE Aid, was handed over to the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) for distribution to flood victims.
The relief package includes essential supplies such as mattresses, bed sheets, drinking water and other emergency items needed by people whose homes and livelihoods have been affected by the floods.
The items were received on behalf of the Ghanaian government by the Deputy Minister for the Interior, Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, who expressed appreciation to the UAE for its timely humanitarian assistance.
Speaking during the presentation, Mr Terlabi noted that natural disasters and flooding can place significant financial and social pressure on affected families and the government, particularly because such emergencies are often difficult to predict.
He said the UAE’s humanitarian support would help provide immediate relief to flood-affected communities in Ghana and assist families as they recover from the impact of the disaster.
The Deputy Minister also assured the public that the relief items would be distributed fairly and transparently to people most in need through NADMO’s relief distribution mechanisms.
The donation is expected to complement Ghana’s ongoing flood relief and disaster response efforts while supporting vulnerable households affected by the recent floods.
