The Bono Regional Chief Manager of Ghana Water Limited (GWL), Mr. Theophilus Collins Tawiah Collins, has stated that customers in the Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo Regions owe the firm a total of GHC10 million in unpaid payments.
In order to prevent being disconnected and facing legal action, he advised the clients to settle their debts. Speaking during a symposium to commemorate Sunyani’s 2025 World Water Day, called “Glacier Preservation,” with an emphasis on water conservation, Mr. Tawiah offered the advice and urged all patrons to pay their water bills on time.
He said that the GWL had started a number of projects to increase access to drinkable water in the areas and that it had been using technology to improve the quality of service delivery.
The main water supply source in the Sunyani municipality, Abesim Water Treatment, is undergoing expansion and restoration projects, according to Mr. Tawuah.
He claimed that although the plant could already pump 1.5 million gallons of water per day, it would need to pump six million gallons to meet the expanding population’s water demands.
According to Mr. Tawiah, barely 10% of the restoration and expansion work has been accomplished, despite the fact that it was anticipated to be finished in November 2025. This is because of budgetary difficulties.
When the project is finished, villages including Kotokrom, Yahwimakrom, Kobedi, Chiraa, Adantia, Odomase, and other nearby communities will have access to drinkable water.
The Wenchi Water Supply extension project, according to Mr. Tawiah, is likewise moving along steadily, with roughly 86 percent of the project already completed and expected to be finished by the end of August 2025.
He listed several obstacles to the company’s attempts to supply clean drinking water in some local populations, such as encroachment, illicit mining, careless human activity, and decreased raw water availability as a result of climate change.
The Public Utilities Regulatory agency’s Bono Regional Public Relations Officer, Miss Julia Antwi, stated that the agency was dedicated to making sure utility service providers satisfied their clients.
She urged people to pay their bills on time and asked GWL to maintain standards.
