55 illegal immigrants were arrested in Kuntunse, close to Amasaman, and were remanded into prison custody by an Accra Circuit Court.

On October 7, 2025, police obtained intelligence that led to the arrest of the accused, who were among a group of more than 100 international nationals.

They denied obtaining the necessary licenses for stay and employment and entering Ghana via unauthorised ways.

In order to conduct additional investigations, the prosecution, headed by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Emmanuel Haligah, asked for their remand.

ASP Haligah informed the court that the accused were located at a home in the Accra suburb of Kuntunse-Satellite by police acting on intelligence.

They were brought to the CID headquarters after refusing to reveal their genuine names during questioning.

The suspects, who are from surrounding francophone nations, entered Ghana through illegal points between February and September 2025, according to investigations, he said.

They did not show up at the closest immigration office to fill out the necessary paperwork and show their travel documents.

Subsequent enquiries verified that none of the defendants have legal documents allowing them to live or work in Ghana.

The accused were hauled before the court and charged.
