The Ghana Police Service has promised to release all of the investigation’s findings regarding the death of a 20-year-old man as soon as possible.
A police officer is accused of shooting and killing him in Wa, the Upper West region’s administrative center.
The promise was given by George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of the Ghana Police Service, on Friday when he visited the deceased’s family in the town to express his condolences.
The IGP gave the family until the middle of June of this year to release the results of the investigations, and he was accompanied by other high police officials.
According to reports, Abubakari Shahid was an Arabic student who was shot and murdered by the police on March 9 after they thought he was an armed robber.
Rampaging relatives of the deceased aggressively fought the robbery charge against him and surrounded the regional coordinating council and Upper West Regional Police Headquarters to demand an apology and a full probe into the killing.
The IGP quickly sent a powerful delegation to console the grieving family and reassure them that the case was being looked into.
A little over three months after the incident, IGP Dampare paid the visit.
