Positions on the ballot paper for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) next Presidential Primary, which is due for January 31, 2026, will be balloted on Friday, October 10, 2025.
All five of the screened candidates were asked to take part in the exercise, which would begin at 11:00 a.m. at the NPP Headquarters in Asylum Down, according to a formal letter signed by William Yamoah, Secretary to the Presidential Elections Committee.
According to the letter, “The Chairman of the Committee has directed me to extend an invitation for your participation in a balloting process to determine your positions on the ballot paper for the upcoming January 31st Presidential Primary.”
Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Hon. Dr Bryan Acheampong, H.E. Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, and Hon. Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum are the candidates anticipated to participate.
Mr Yamoah claims that the balloting is a component of the party’s endeavours to maintain openness and equity in its internal democratic procedures.
“We kindly request your confirmation of receipt of this invitation. Should you have any questions or require further information, please do not hesitate to contact the undersigned,” he continued.
All preparations for the primary, which will choose the NPP’s flagbearer for the general elections in 2028, are being managed by the Presidential Elections Committee, which is chaired by a senior party stalwart.
As evidence of the party’s maturity and dedication to democratic government, the Committee commended the candidates for their civility throughout the screening process.
Mr Yamoah stressed, “The party remains committed to a free, fair, and credible process that strengthens unity and prepares us for victory in 2028
With candidates like Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong among the front-runners, the January 31 primary is anticipated to be one of the most fiercely contested in recent years.
