Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the former minority leader, has praised President John Dramani Mahama’s administration for its economic management, calling the government’s nine-month record “impressive and encouraging.”

Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu stated that the Mahama-led government had “performed well by bringing inflation down, stabilising the cedi, and effectively implementing the gold board policy” in an interview with Kwame Tanko on Lawson TV.

“When the NPP left office, inflation was around 21 percent, but now the NDC has achieved a single-digit inflation rate, which is a huge positive.” he said.

He also commended the government’s interest rate management, stating that the NDC had “gone a step further” by lowering bank rates to 18 percent, when the NPP had attempted to lower them from 32 to 22 percent prior to leaving power.

Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu praised the current administration’s accomplishments on the currency rate.

The cedi was worth 16 cedis to the US dollar when we left government. Under Mahama, it is currently around 10 cedis. “That demonstrates good management,” he remarked.

He claims that these victories show the NDC government is “on the right trajectory” and making real headway in bringing about economic stability.
