The New Patriotic Party (NPP), which is in power, will win the Assin North by-election in the Central Region on June 27, according to Richard Ahiagbah, the party’s director of communications.
According to the NPP’s Director of Communications, “Assin North is an interesting seat because it is returning to the NPP, and our chances are excellent.”
The National Democratic Congress has never won with more votes than we did, if you look at the numbers. They never crossed anyplace, and we last won with more than 56 or 57 percent of the vote in 2016.
So it is obvious that we have the capacity to do better in that constituency. By virtue of the work we have done, the NPP will win on June 27.
“The dynamics are different, and it has nothing to do with his person [James Gyakye Quayson], whose second coming doesn’t really matter,” he said.
He stated that on June 7, the NPP will choose a parliamentary candidate for the byelection.
“We started nominations on Wednesday so that anyone interested in running for that position might do so. Our party’s delegates will then decide which candidate is most suited to represent us. My most recent research indicates that so far, two persons have selected nomination forms.
Elections to choose the parliamentary candidate for Assin North will be held on June 7 when we complete the screening this week, according to Mr. Ahiagbah, who spoke on Citi FM in Accra.
James Gyakye Quayson will be re-presented, according to the NDC.
After the Supreme Court ruled that James Gyakye Quayson was qualified to hold the Assin North seat, Parliament, through its Clerk, declared the seat vacant on May 30.
On May 17, the Supreme Court issued a unanimous judgement directing Ghana’s Parliament to remove James Gyakye Quayson’s name from the list of Members of Parliament (MPs) for the Assin North seat.
