The Ministry of the Interior has stated that Republic Day would be marked nationwide on Friday, July 3, 2026, as a statutory public holiday.
According to the Ministry, while Republic Day occurs on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, John Dramani Mahama has declared Friday, July 3, 2026, as the official day of observance.
The declaration was issued in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act of 2001 (Act 601), as amended.
The Ministry of the Interior, in a statement issued by Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak on June 24, 2026, advised the people to take note of the change and observe the day properly.
“The general public is hereby informed that Friday, July 3, 2026, marks Republic Day, which is a statutory public holiday,” the statement said.
The Ministry stated that the change was essential because July 1 fell on a Wednesday this year.
