Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has praised her working relationship with President John Dramani Mahama, describing the partnership as positive and built on mutual trust, shared goals and a commitment to Ghana’s development.
Speaking on the KSM Show on Friday, August 7, 2026, the Vice President said she and President Mahama remain focused on delivering the government’s development agenda and addressing the needs of Ghanaians rather than allowing disagreements to distract from their responsibilities.
According to Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, the leadership of the country has a clear strategy and a shared objective of building Ghana.
“We have a strategy. So what is there to fundamentally disagree about? To begin with, the issue is we are building the nation,” she said.
Opoku-Agyemang Expresses Confidence in Mahama
The Vice President explained that she understands the significant responsibilities and pressures that come with serving as President and therefore considers it her duty to support President Mahama in achieving the administration’s objectives.
She noted that the President encounters issues and pressures that may not always be visible to other members of government, making trust and cooperation important in their working relationship.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said her confidence in President Mahama is based on her knowledge of his leadership style and her belief that his decisions remain aligned with the objectives agreed upon by the government.
“You know that he’s not going to do anything away from the agreed objectives. You know him enough, you trust him enough, and he demonstrates that enough,” she stated.
She added that her role as Vice President is primarily to support the President and contribute to the implementation of the government’s policies and programmes.
Shared Manifesto and Development Agenda
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also emphasised that the Mahama administration is guided by the manifesto commitments presented to Ghanaians during the election campaign.
She said the government’s mandate came from the people of Ghana, who entrusted the leadership with the responsibility of implementing its development plans.
“What are we doing together? That’s a fundamental question. We are here because we have a manifesto. We did the campaign. The people of Ghana listened to us,” she said.
The Vice President described her partnership with President Mahama as a strong and productive one, expressing gratitude for the level of cooperation between the two leaders.
“So far, so good. And I’m very, very thankful. I’m very, very thankful that we have such a good working relationship,” Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said.
Her comments underline the administration’s emphasis on political unity, effective leadership, good governance and the implementation of policies aimed at Ghana’s national development.
