The Majority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has disclosed that two bail applications filed on behalf of Asante Akyem North MP Ohene Kwame Frimpong have been rejected as the lawmaker remains in custody in the Netherlands.
According to Mr Dafeamekpor, the extradition hearing involving the Ghanaian MP has been scheduled for November 18, 2026, as legal proceedings concerning his detention continue in Amsterdam.
Ohene Kwame Frimpong Remains in Dutch Custody
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, Mr Dafeamekpor said the MP remains in the custody of Dutch authorities.
He disclosed that the legal team had pursued two separate bail applications — one substantive application and an appeal — but both were unsuccessful.
The development means the Asante Akyem North MP will remain in detention in the Netherlands as preparations continue for the substantive extradition proceedings.
Extradition Hearing Scheduled for November 18
Mr Dafeamekpor said Parliament and the legal team are now preparing for the substantive hearing scheduled for November 18, 2026.
He also disclosed that Parliament is working on a statement regarding the current status of the detained lawmaker.
The case has attracted significant public attention in Ghana following the MP’s arrest at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam in May 2026 after travelling from Ghana. Parliament subsequently confirmed his detention and indicated that it was engaging Ghana’s diplomatic mission in The Hague for further information.
Allegations Linked to Financial Crimes
Reports about the case have linked the detention to allegations involving romance scams, fraud and money laundering. However, previous statements from legal representatives and parliamentary officials have stressed the need for caution while the legal process continues.
The Ghana News Agency previously reported that lawyers for Mr Frimpong were challenging his detention and maintained that there were no formal charges publicly established against him at that stage.
