Greater Accra Regional Minister and Member of Parliament for Shai Osudoku, Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, has cut sod for the construction of a modern 24-hour economy market in the Shai Osudoku District.
The sod-cutting ceremony was held on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, marking the beginning of a project expected to create new opportunities for traders, farmers, artisans, women and young entrepreneurs in the constituency.
The ceremony brought together the District Chief Executive, District Coordinating Director, traditional leaders, Assembly members, heads of departments, private-sector representatives, traders, farmers, artisans and members of the media.
Shai Osudoku 24-Hour Economy Market to Boost Local Businesses
Speaking at the ceremony, Linda Ocloo described the project as an important milestone in the economic development of Shai Osudoku.
She said the 24-hour economy market has the potential to create significant economic opportunities for residents while supporting local businesses and increasing economic activity within the district.
According to the Regional Minister, the project represents a practical step towards implementing the government’s 24-hour economy policy at the community level.
She explained that the initiative is designed to expand economic activity, create jobs, improve productivity and provide opportunities for businesses and individuals to increase their incomes.
Market Project to Support Women and Young Entrepreneurs
Linda Ocloo also highlighted the important role markets play in the livelihoods of women across Ghana.
She noted that many women involved in petty trading, food processing, agriculture and small-scale businesses depend on markets as their main source of income.
According to her, modern markets can provide women, young people and other entrepreneurs with safer and more organised spaces to operate and expand their businesses.
The Shai Osudoku MP therefore expressed particular support for the development of a modern, safe and well-organised market that can help residents grow their businesses and improve their livelihoods.
Ocloo Urges Beneficiaries to Maximise Opportunities
The Regional Minister urged women, young people, traders and other prospective beneficiaries to take advantage of the project once completed.
She encouraged them to use the market as a platform to expand businesses, create employment and contribute to the economic development of Shai Osudoku.
Ocloo said the project’s success would depend not only on its construction but also on how effectively residents use the facility to generate economic opportunities.
Contractor Asked to Employ Shai Osudoku Residents
Linda Ocloo also appealed to the contractor handling the project to prioritise the use of local labour.
She said employing residents of the Shai Osudoku District during the construction phase would help reduce unemployment and ensure that the project delivers immediate economic benefits to the community.
The request is expected to create temporary employment opportunities for local artisans, construction workers and other service providers involved in the project.
Ocloo Commends Government and Stakeholders
The Greater Accra Regional Minister commended the government for making the 24-hour economy a major development priority.
She also acknowledged the contributions of the District Assembly, traditional authorities, technical teams and other stakeholders whose efforts helped bring the market project to the construction stage.
