Ghana has taken another significant step towards re-establishing its national airline following an agreement on a roadmap outlining the key activities required to launch the proposed carrier.

The roadmap includes identifying a strategic airline partner and a technical partner, obtaining an Air Operator Certificate (AOC), selecting an appropriate aircraft fleet and determining the financing arrangements for the new airline.

The development was announced after President John Dramani Mahama held discussions with officials of Boeing, the American aerospace company supporting Ghana’s efforts to establish a new national airline.

In a statement issued by the Presidency on Friday, November 6, 2026, the government disclosed that preliminary feasibility studies had confirmed the viability of the proposed national airline project.

According to the statement, the Boeing delegation assured President Mahama of its continued technical support throughout the establishment and operational phases of the airline.

Ghana National Airline Project Gains Momentum

The proposed national airline is expected to strengthen Ghana’s aviation industry, improve international air connectivity and maximise the use of the country’s upgraded airport infrastructure.

The government believes the establishment of a new national carrier will support President Mahama’s ambition to transform Accra into West Africa’s leading aviation hub.

With improved airport facilities and increased international connectivity, Ghana hopes to position itself as a major destination for regional and international air travel.

New National Airline to Create Thousands of Jobs

Beyond strengthening the aviation sector, the proposed airline is expected to generate thousands of employment opportunities for Ghanaians.

The Presidency indicated that the project would create jobs for pilots, cabin crew members, aeronautical engineers and aviation management professionals, among other aviation industry specialists.

The initiative is also expected to stimulate economic activity across the aviation value chain, including airport operations, aircraft maintenance, tourism, hospitality and related services.

Boeing to Support Ghana’s National Airline Establishment

Boeing’s involvement is expected to provide technical assistance as Ghana progresses with plans to establish and operate the new national carrier.

The next stages will focus on securing the right strategic and technical partners, obtaining the necessary aviation regulatory certification, choosing suitable aircraft and putting sustainable financing arrangements in place.

The development marks an important milestone in Ghana’s ambition to restore a national airline and strengthen its position in the competitive African aviation market.
