New CCTV footage has emerged showing how the body of 24-year-old Ghanaian Joseph Owusu was allegedly removed from a vehicle and abandoned in a black duffel bag in New York City, as his family continues to demand justice over his mysterious death.
The surveillance video, sighted on Friday, November 6, 2026, and published by American television station ABC7, captures two unidentified individuals suspected to be adult men unloading a large black duffel bag from the boot of a white saloon car.
The footage, recorded during the night, shows the two individuals dragging the bag onto the pavement before getting back into the vehicle and driving away.
In a separate recording captured the following day, another unidentified man is seen placing the black bag on a metal stretcher and wheeling it away.
Joseph Owusu’s remains were subsequently discovered by a man who was searching for scrap metal, triggering investigations into the circumstances surrounding the young Ghanaian’s death.
Joseph Owusu’s Brother Demands Justice
The deceased’s brother, Kojo Yeboah, has expressed deep sorrow over the incident, calling on authorities to establish the truth and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
Speaking after watching the CCTV footage, Yeboah said the family was struggling to accept the tragic loss of their loved one, particularly given his young age and the circumstances surrounding his death.
“I need justice for Joseph. I want the truth to come out because my brother didn’t deserve to die the way he did. He’s only 24. He had a lot of living to do,” he said.
Yeboah disclosed that the tragedy had taken a heavy emotional toll on the family, explaining that he had struggled to eat and cope with the devastating news.
When asked whether he recognised the individuals captured in the surveillance footage, he said he could not identify any of them despite watching the recordings several times.
He explained that he had also shared the video with friends in the hope that someone might recognise the suspects or provide information that could assist investigators.
Family Describes Joseph Owusu as Talented Musician
Meanwhile, the family has described Joseph Owusu as a kind, talented and widely loved young man who had a strong passion for music and religious activities.
According to his brother, Joseph was a dedicated church member who served as an organist at their church in the Bronx, New York.
Yeboah said his younger brother could spend several hours playing the piano, constantly practising to perfect his musical skills.
“He was loved by everyone. He would play the piano for hours and hours and just make sure that he didn’t make a mistake,” he recounted.
The family also disclosed that Joseph was employed in a role providing direct support to people living with disabilities while pursuing studies in computer science.
His brother said the family was finding it particularly difficult to adjust to life without him, describing the emotional emptiness created by his sudden death.
He added that he was trying to remain strong to support their mother, who has been deeply affected by the tragedy.
Investigation Into Ghanaian Joseph Owusu’s Death Continues
The circumstances surrounding Joseph Owusu’s death remain unclear, with his family desperate for answers about what happened before his body was abandoned.
The emergence of the CCTV footage is expected to provide investigators with additional material as they work to establish the identities of the individuals captured in the recordings and determine their possible involvement.
For the bereaved family, the immediate priority remains finding out the truth behind the 24-year-old Ghanaian’s death and ensuring that justice is served.
The family is appealing for anyone with useful information about the incident or the unidentified individuals seen in the surveillance footage to assist the relevant authorities.
