The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with DMT Collateral Management Limited for the construction of a 21,000-tonne grain storage facility in Wa, Upper West Region.

The agreement, signed on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Accra, is part of the government’s Feed Ghana Programme, which seeks to improve agricultural productivity, strengthen food security and reduce post-harvest losses across the country.

The proposed grain storage facility is expected to significantly increase Ghana’s capacity to store essential food commodities while improving the management of strategic national grain reserves.

Feed Ghana Programme to Strengthen Food Security

The construction of the 21,000-tonne storage facility forms part of broader government interventions aimed at transforming Ghana’s agricultural sector and ensuring a reliable food supply.

Under the partnership with DMT Collateral Management Limited, the facility will serve as a strategic Food Security Hub, providing storage infrastructure for grains and other essential food reserves.

The initiative is expected to help address challenges associated with post-harvest losses, inadequate grain storage infrastructure and seasonal fluctuations in food availability.

Wa Grain Storage Facility to Support National Emergency Preparedness

Beyond improving agricultural storage capacity, the proposed facility in Wa will play an important role in Ghana’s national food security strategy.

The Food Security Hub is expected to provide strategic grain reserves that can be deployed during periods of food shortages, supply disruptions and other national emergencies.

The project is also expected to strengthen Ghana’s ability to manage food supply challenges, support agricultural value chains and improve the country’s preparedness against food insecurity.

The partnership between MoFA and DMT Collateral Management Limited represents another step towards expanding agricultural infrastructure and building a more resilient food system under the government’s Feed Ghana Programme.
