In order to compete in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Assin North parliamentary primary, two candidates have successfully picked up the nomination forms.

They are Mr. Frederick Freeman Amoah-Kyei, a businessman, and Mr. Charles Opoku, an electrical engineer and entrepreneur.

After the Supreme Court found that Mr. Gyake Quayson, a member of the National Democratic Congress, was not legitimately elected, Parliament recently declared the Assin North parliamentary seat empty.

The NPP’s general secretary, Mr. Justin Kodua Frimpong, then issued a statement stating that the constituency office would sell nomination forms from Wednesday, May 31 to Saturday, June 3.

The NPP Steering Committee decided to host the primary during a meeting on May 30, 2023, and agreed to do so.

The restrained Mr. Quayson, who defeated NPP Member of Parliament Ms. Abena Durowaa Mensah in the 2020 parliamentary election, held the seat.

Assin North’s byelection is expected to be a big deal because several political parties will be vying for the chance to fill the open parliamentary seat.

All eyes have been on the candidates for the election, which is set for Friday, June 7, 2023, since the NPP opened nominations.
