‘Outstanding writer’ Ama Ata Aidoo was a Ghanaian author, poet, playwright, and academic. President Akufo-Addo expressed his sadness upon learning of her departure.
In a post, the President expressed his sympathies to the family for their “great loss.”
“I was saddened and grieved to learn of Ama Ata Aidoo’s passing. Her children and family have my sincere sympathy and sorrow for their tragic loss.
President Akufo-Addo shared happy recollections and praised Ama Ata Aidoo’s enormous contributions to the development of Ghana and the continent in his eulogy for the Ghanaian author.
She contributed greatly to the growth of our nation and continent through her work and articulated many of our sentiments towards Ghanaians’ and Africans’ fate.
She was a classmate of mine at the University of Ghana, and we got along well and accomplished things together. Ama Ata Aidoo, a prominent Ghanaian, was one of her generation’s best writers.
