Final funeral rites of Dr Omane Boamah held in Koforidua

The final funeral rites of former Defence Minister, Dr Omane Boamah, has taken place in the Eastern Regional capital Koforidua.

First Lady Lordina Mahama and high-level government delegation joined family and mourners to pay their last respect in his honour.

From across the region and the country, dignitaries converged in Koforidua to bid farewell to the illustrious son and former Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, who died in the August 6 helicopter crash.

The First Lady, Lordina Mahama, Ministers of State, Members of Parliament, leadership of the National Democratic Congress, and hundreds of mourners gathered at Jackson Park, the venue for the final funeral rites.

Also in attendance were the wife and family of the late minister, alongside chiefs and traditional leaders.

Many extolled the virtues of Dr. Omane Boamah, describing him as a dedicated public servant and a man of integrity.

“He is a man of peace, a man of intelligent and a man of wisdom. Ghana, we have lost a great man” Isaac Baah Forson noted.

Governance Analyst Prof Enoch Opoku Antwi said he has served this country with everything in him, “unfortunately we have to say goodbye to him. Knowing Kofi growing up, he comes from a humble background, he never gave up, he committed himself into learning that is why he did medicine. He was focused on what was ahead, he did not relent on his oars as a student leader, his track record is fighting for the youth, even the grassroot of the NDC.”

“He led an exemplary life as a Catholic, we have lost a good man. Ghana has lost someone of his caliber, but his legacy lives on” said Catholic Priest in the Koforidua Diocese,Rev. Fr. Derrick Mawuli

Dr. Edward Omane Boamah was among the eight who lost their lives in the August helicopter crash.

A rainstorm disrupted the funeral rites midway.
