The government has announced that Friday, January 9, 2026, will be a national public holiday to commemorate Constitution Day.
According to a Ministry of the Interior announcement, Constitution Day is legally on Wednesday, January 7, but the President of the Republic, John Dramani Mahama, has used his Executive Instrument (E.I.) authority to move the public holiday to Friday.
The decision was made in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act, 2001 (Act 601), as modified, which allows for broader national observance.
The announcement, released on January 2, 2026, and signed by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak (MP), advised the general public to be aware of the change and observe the holiday accordingly.
