The National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) hosted a Strategic Planning Retreat on Wednesday with the topic “Planning Together for a Better Future for Children and Adolescents in Ghana.”
Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang participated.
The conversations reaffirmed how children’s lives and futures are shaped by social protection, education, justice, sanitation, economic policy, climate resilience, and governance.
The Vice President stated that the tangible steps taken following the discussions will be used to gauge the success of the retreat organised in collaboration with UNICEF.

She said that child poverty is still a major issue and that too many children continue to experience deprivation.
The Vice President claims that the government is moving forward with child-centered changes, such as the Care Reform Roadmap, which places a higher priority on safe, family-based care than institutionalisation.
Additionally, a Digital Social Services program has been launched.
Together, these will improve accountability and coordination, strengthening child protection.
“We are also promoting coordinated social services, adolescent safe spaces, community prevention initiatives, and the Ghana Against Child Abuse campaign to protect children and empower young people,” she continued.
An Early Childhood Care and Development Policy is still a national goal, according to Professor Opoku-Agyemang.
The policy acknowledges that long-term development depends on investing in children between the ages of 0 and 8.
