The Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2021, has fulfilled all necessary procedural requirements under Parliament’s Standing Orders and is now prepared to be brought to the House for additional consideration, according to Speaker of the House of Representatives Rt. Hon. Alban S.K. Bagbin.
In a communiqué delivered on the floor of Parliament, the Speaker disclosed that the bill will be routed through the Business Committee, which will schedule it for debate and possible action by the House.
Rt. Hon. Bagbin stressed the need for accuracy and responsibility in public commentary on the proposed legislation, cautioning that some Members of Parliament have engaged in discussions without a full understanding of the bill’s procedural status.
He warned that such commentary could misinform the public and create confusion about the legislative process.
The Speaker claims that nine members of Parliament have formally reintroduced the bill, which has since been reviewed by the Attorney General’s Office.
In accordance with parliamentary norms, the Committee on Private Members’ Bills and Private Members’ Motions has also reviewed it.
He emphasised that all steps taken thus far have fully complied with Parliament’s rules, paving the way for the bill to be placed on the House’s official business agenda.
The announcement coincides with a resurgence of public interest and national discussion surrounding the measure.
After the Business Committee schedules it for consideration, Parliament is anticipated to decide its next move.
