On Friday, February 20, 2025, the Kasoa Ofaakor Circuit Court, presided over by Her Honour Nana Asantewaa Attakorah, remanded 12 people and two infamous landguards who were allegedly national security agents into police prison after the group carried out a demolition exercise.
Early on Thursday morning, the mob broke into the Gomoa Akoti village in the Central Region’s Gomoa East District and forcibly destroyed more than 60 homes in varying states of completion.
The people were arrested by the Gomoa Ojobi District Police Command and charged with four crimes: conspiracy to commit crime, using force and violence to prevent rightful land owners, inciting fear and panic, and unlawful destruction.
The accused were remanded into police custody to appear before the same court on March 4, 2026, after the court denied their request for release due to the seriousness of the destruction.
“I’m very happy about the outcome of the event. But I’ll be happier if they are finally jailed because I became very terrified about what occurred.”
Property owner Juliana Asane, who was present at the court proceedings, responded to the situation by saying, “I wouldn’t know where they would have taken my siblings to but for the timely arrival of the police.”
In the meantime, Gomoa Akoti’s traditional leaders have urged the police to step up their efforts in the region in order to drive out land guards who seem to be starting up again.
