Ghana Water Ltd. (GWL) has refuted social media accusations that its potable water supply is being contaminated by a burst water pipeline within an overflowing sewage chamber, characterising the assertions as untrue, deceptive, and lacking any technical or factual foundation.

The company disclosed in a statement released on July 13 that as soon as the video appeared online, it sent a team of engineers and technological specialists to check the site.

The pipeline depicted in the widely shared video, according to GWL, is a trunk sewer intake conduit intended to transport wastewater into the sewage chamber as part of the sewerage system rather than being owned by Ghana Water Ltd.

The company added that no GWL pipeline at the location is burst, damaged, or exposed, and that inspections have verified that there is no Ghana Water pipeline inside the sewage chamber.

“The investigation further established that there is no Ghana Water pipeline within the sewage chamber, and no burst, damaged, or exposed GWL pipeline at the location. Consequently, the allegation that sewage is entering Ghana Water’s distribution system is entirely unfounded,” the statement read.

Ghana Water gave the public assurances that its infrastructure for potable water is entirely isolated from sewage systems and is built and maintained to avoid any contact between wastewater and drinking water.

The business added that in order to guarantee that the water delivered to customers satisfies the drinking water quality criteria set by the Ghana criteria Authority, it is subjected to stringent treatment, ongoing operational monitoring, and regular laboratory testing.

As a result, GWL has advised the public to ignore the deceptive video and only trust information released via its official channels.
