The government has been asked by the minority to provide detailed information about contracts given out under the “Big Push” large road development program.

Kennedy Osei Nyarko, MP for Akim Swedru and Ranking Member of the Parliament’s Roads and Transport Committee, told reporters on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, that this openness will promote accountability.

He underlined that the Big Push plan could significantly improve connectivity and open important economic corridors across the country with sufficient funding and effective execution.

The Fourth Estate’s study, which raised issues with procurement procedures, including the pervasive practice of sole-sourcing and possible cost inflation in contract awards, prompted this call.

Kwame Agbodza, the Minister for Roads and Highways, is accused by the Fourth Estate of overseeing 81 sole-sourced contracts worth more than GHS73 billion in just seven months.

The lawmaker noted that the full contract details, including the identities of contractors, the scope of work assigned to each, and the unit cost per kilometre, must be published.

He pointed out that this was crucial to rebuilding public confidence and guaranteeing accountability in the provision of infrastructure.

“We strongly believe that the government must, as a matter of urgency, publish the full details of these contracts. This will give Ghanaians the opportunity to independently assess the policy and promote transparency in the execution of the programme,” he stated.
