Ghana-US trade reached an expected $4 billion in goods and services in 2025, with leaders from both nations optimistic about boosting investment and economic ties.
At the U.S. Embassy’s Freedom 250 celebration in Accra, which commemorates the 250th anniversary of American freedom, the milestone was emphasised.
Speaking to visitors, Rolf Olson, the U.S. Embassy’s Acting Chargé d’Affaires, stated that the two countries’ relationship has developed beyond diplomacy into a collaboration that affects Ghanaians’ day-to-day lives.
“We reached about US$4 billion in bilateral trade in goods and services between Ghana and the United States last year, but we know that number can grow,” he said.
Mr. Olson claims that over 100 US businesses operate in Ghana, generating employment, paying taxes, and making investments in industries like mining, technology, agriculture, and hospitality.
Attorney General and Minister for Justice Dr. Dominic Ayine, speaking on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, characterised the trade statistic as proof of the two countries’ close economic connections.
Citing recent initiatives to restore macroeconomic stability and increase investor confidence, he stated that Ghana remained dedicated to fostering an investment-friendly climate.
Additionally, Dr. Ayine emphasised Ghana’s advantageous location within the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and extended an invitation to American companies to investigate industrialisation and value-adding prospects.
In an effort to capitalise on the record trade performance, the two nations are anticipated to expand their collaboration in cutting-edge fields like digital technology, artificial intelligence, energy, and advanced agriculture.
