Ghana’s elderly citizens are the cornerstone of the country’s prosperity, according to President John Dramani Mahama, who also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to bolstering social safety, healthcare, and pensions to promote dignified ageing.

Speaking at the Republic Day Senior Citizens’ Luncheon at the Presidential Villa in Accra, he conveyed gratitude for their lifetime service in important fields and their role in the advancement of the country.

He reaffirmed ongoing initiatives to boost the economy and improve livelihoods, including increased assistance for retirees, under the 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Programme.

Additionally, the President called for continuing respect and care for the elderly within families and communities and urged senior residents to sign up for the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (MahamaCares) to support treatment for non-communicable diseases.
