Four people have died in a fatal road accident at Esuehyia Junction along the Apam-Mankesim Highway in Ghana’s Central Region.

The tragic crash occurred at about 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 13, 2026, involving a Toyota Vitz and a DAF passenger bus.

According to the Central Regional Command of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the Toyota Vitz was registered GM 3758-26, while the DAF passenger bus carried the foreign registration number SGB 897XB.

Four Victims Trapped in Toyota Vitz

Personnel from the Mankesim Fire Station were dispatched to the scene following reports of the accident.

Upon arrival, firefighters found four people trapped inside the badly damaged Toyota Vitz.

The victims comprised three males and one female.

Firefighters successfully extricated all four occupants from the mangled vehicle. However, personnel from the National Ambulance Service who were at the scene confirmed that all four victims had died.

The bodies were subsequently handed over to the Ghana Police Service for the necessary procedures.

Six Bus Passengers Sustain Injuries

Six occupants of the DAF passenger bus sustained minor injuries in the collision.

The GNFS reported that the bus was travelling from Côte d’Ivoire to Nigeria when it collided with the Toyota Vitz, which was also travelling in the direction of Cape Coast.

The crash has renewed concerns about road safety in Ghana, particularly on major highways connecting communities and neighbouring countries.

Cause of Central Region Accident Under Investigation

The exact circumstances that led to the Esuehyia Junction road accident have not yet been established.

Authorities are expected to investigate the crash to determine the factors that resulted in the collision.
