Member of Parliament for Effia in the Western Region, Isaac Boamah-Nyarko, has supported more than 600 BECE graduates from the constituency who have secured admission to various Senior High Schools (SHSs).
The initiative is aimed at helping students successfully transition from basic education to secondary education by providing them with essential school supplies and educational materials.
The items presented to the beneficiaries included metal trunks, mattresses, exercise books and school bags. In addition, the top 10 best-performing students in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) received cash prizes in recognition of their outstanding academic performance.
Speaking at a presentation ceremony in Effiakuma, Mr Boamah-Nyarko said the initiative formed part of his commitment to promoting education and youth development in the Effia constituency.
According to the Effia MP, the intervention was designed to ensure that financial challenges do not prevent students from starting their Senior High School education with the basic materials they need.
He explained that his office was determined to support young people and create opportunities that would enable them to achieve their educational goals.
Mr Boamah-Nyarko stressed that the future development of Effia was closely linked to the quality of education available to children in the constituency.
He noted that his responsibilities as an MP went beyond parliamentary debates and legislation, adding that his office must also respond to the everyday needs of constituents and make a meaningful impact in their lives.
Effia MP outlines education investment plans
Mr Boamah-Nyarko said the donation was part of a broader educational support programme being implemented by his office.
He explained that the programme seeks to invest in education and develop the next generation of scholars, professionals and technocrats who would contribute to the development of the Effia constituency and Ghana as a whole.
The MP assured residents that he would continue to utilise available opportunities and resources to support education, youth development and academic excellence in the constituency.
MP raises concerns over students’ academic performance
Despite the educational support, Mr Boamah-Nyarko expressed concern about the declining academic performance of students in the area.
He called for stronger collaboration among parents, teachers, education authorities, community leaders and other stakeholders to identify practical solutions to improve learning outcomes.
The MP also urged the beneficiaries to take advantage of the support and approach their SHS education with seriousness and commitment.
He cautioned the students against negative peer influence and other behaviours that could undermine their education and future prospects.
Education Director commends Effia MP
The Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Director of Education, Gloria Biney-Gontor, commended Mr Boamah-Nyarko for supporting the BECE graduates.
She said the donation would help reduce the financial burden on parents while giving students the necessary support to begin their Senior High School education.
Mrs Biney-Gontor also encouraged the students to remain focused on their studies and avoid negative peer pressure or activities that could affect their academic progress.
Parents welcome educational support
Some parents who spoke to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) expressed appreciation for the intervention.
They said the provision of essential school materials would ease some of the financial pressure associated with preparing children for SHS.
According to the parents, the support would allow families to redirect their limited financial resources towards purchasing other items their children may need as they begin their Senior High School education.
The initiative highlights the growing importance of educational support, BECE scholarships, school supplies and youth development programmes in helping Ghanaian students overcome financial barriers and pursue their academic ambitions.
