Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has welcomed US President Donald Trump’s decision to facilitate an emergency travel visa for Doris Adu Gyamfi, the mother of murdered Ghanaian teenager Javits Frimpong.

In a statement, Ablakwa expressed appreciation to President Trump and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani for their intervention, describing the decision as an important gesture of compassion towards the grieving Ghanaian mother.

The Foreign Affairs Minister disclosed that he had personally spoken with Madam Adu Gyamfi and directed officials of Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to support her through the emergency visa application process.

He said the government recognised the enormous pain the mother was experiencing following the tragic death of her son and was committed to ensuring she travelled to the United States to pay her final respects.

Ablakwa further announced that the Mahama administration would cover the full cost of Madam Adu Gyamfi’s travel to America and was prepared to contribute towards organising a dignified funeral for the late teenager.

He also reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to working with relevant authorities to ensure justice is served in the killing of Javits Frimpong.

The development follows the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Javits in the Bronx, New York, while he was reportedly walking to school. His death has sparked grief among Ghanaians in the United States and renewed calls for justice.

The government’s intervention is aimed at supporting the bereaved family while ensuring that those responsible for the teenager’s death are brought to justice.
