Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Victor Emmanuel Smith, has called for a full and impartial investigation into the killing of 15-year-old Ghanaian teenager Javits Badu Nkansah Frimpong in the Bronx, New York.
The Ambassador is also urging US authorities to investigate reports that the teenager experienced racial bullying at school before his death, stressing the need to establish the facts and ensure justice is served.
Javits was reportedly shot dead by unidentified assailants at approximately 9:20 a.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2026, while travelling to school in the Bronx.
In a condolence message to the bereaved family, Mr Smith described the incident as heartbreaking and called for stronger protection of children against racial discrimination, bullying and violence.
He extended his sympathies to the teenager’s father, Thomas Frimpong, and the entire family, describing Javits’ death as a devastating loss to Ghana and the Ghanaian community in the United States.
The Ambassador disclosed that Javits had moved to the United States barely a year ago in search of better educational opportunities and a brighter future. He said the teenager’s tragic death had cut short a promising young life.
Mr Smith assured the family that the Ghanaian Embassy shared in their grief and would support efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing.
Ghana Government Promises Justice for Javits Frimpong
Meanwhile, Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has assured the family that the Ghanaian government will pursue justice for the murdered teenager.
Mr Ablakwa disclosed that he had personally spoken with Javits’ father and promised that the government would work to ensure those responsible for the killing are held accountable.
Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also confirmed that the country’s Permanent Mission in New York had visited the family to express condolences and provide support.
The ministry pledged to cooperate with relevant United States authorities and offer the family appropriate legal and consular assistance throughout the investigation.
Ghana Calls for Investigation Into Reported Racial Bullying
The Ghanaian government has urged law enforcement authorities in the Bronx to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the shooting, including allegations of racial bullying involving the deceased.
The government says protecting children from violence, discrimination and school bullying must remain a priority, regardless of their nationality, race or background.
The killing of Javits Frimpong has sparked concern among Ghanaians at home and abroad, with calls for accountability, justice and improved protection for young people in schools and communities.
Ghana says it will continue engaging US authorities to support the family and ensure that the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death are thoroughly investigated.
