The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has appointed former Black Stars captain and Ghana football legend Asamoah Gyan to the national team’s backroom staff in a newly created role as Clubs and Player Relations Manager.
The appointment was confirmed by the GFA on Monday, September 21, 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen coordination between the Black Stars, Ghanaian and international clubs, and players selected for national team duty.
Asamoah Gyan’s New Role with the Black Stars
In his new position, Asamoah Gyan will play a key role in improving communication between the Black Stars technical team and clubs that release players for international assignments.
His responsibilities will include coordinating player call-up communications, addressing player welfare matters and providing mentorship to members of the current Black Stars squad.
Gyan will also serve as a key liaison between the national team’s technical staff, players and their respective clubs, helping to improve communication and resolve issues that may arise during international windows.
GFA Seeks Stronger Club-National Team Relations
The newly created position is intended to help reduce potential conflicts between club football commitments and international duty.
By strengthening communication among clubs, players and the Black Stars management team, the GFA aims to create a more coordinated environment for players representing Ghana.
Asamoah Gyan brings extensive experience to the position following his distinguished career with the Black Stars, where he became Ghana’s all-time leading scorer and one of the country’s most prominent football figures.
His appointment adds another layer of experience to the Black Stars’ management structure as Ghana continues preparations for upcoming international competitions and 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
