Ghana is intensifying efforts to attract Chinese investment and strengthen international cooperation in the mining industry as part of plans to promote mineral value addition, technology transfer and sustainable industrial development.
Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Sulemana Yusif, has led a high-level Ghanaian delegation to hold discussions with Chinese officials in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region ahead of the China-ASEAN (Guangxi) Mining Cooperation Conference in Nanning.
The delegation met with the Vice-Chairperson of the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, H.E. Sui Guohua, on Thursday, November 5, 2026.
The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations between Ghana and China while identifying investment opportunities and practical areas of cooperation in mineral exploration, mining technology, industrial development and local mineral processing.
Ghana Targets Chinese Investment in Mineral Value Addition
During the engagement, the Ghanaian delegation explored opportunities to attract Chinese investors into the country’s mining sector, particularly in areas that could increase the local processing of minerals and create greater economic value.
The discussions also highlighted the importance of technology transfer, investment partnerships and industrial cooperation in transforming Ghana’s mineral resources into finished and semi-finished products.
Ghana is seeking to strengthen its capacity to process more of its natural resources locally rather than depending heavily on the export of raw minerals.
Such partnerships could support the development of mineral processing facilities, create employment opportunities, improve technical expertise and increase the contribution of the mining industry to the national economy.

Guangxi Expresses Interest in Stronger Mining Cooperation with Ghana
Welcoming the Ghanaian delegation, H.E. Sui Guohua highlighted Guangxi’s industrial strength and established capabilities in mineral processing and manufacturing.
He expressed interest in expanding cooperation with Ghana, particularly in mineral development, industrial partnerships and investment opportunities.
The Chinese official also underscored the potential for stronger collaboration between Ghana and Guangxi in leveraging their respective economic and industrial capabilities.
The engagement forms part of Ghana’s broader efforts to strengthen international mining partnerships, attract foreign direct investment and accelerate reforms aimed at promoting local value addition in the minerals sector.
The anticipated cooperation between Ghana and China is expected to provide opportunities for investment, technological advancement and industrial development within Ghana’s mining industry.
