The Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Kwame Ohene Frimpong, remains in detention in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, after attempts by Ghana’s Majority Caucus to secure his release on bail proved unsuccessful.
Majority Chief Whip, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, disclosed this during a parliamentary leaders’ media briefing on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. He announced that the MP’s extradition hearing is scheduled to commence on November 18, 2026.
According to Dafeamekpor, the Ghanaian legislator is still being held in Dutch custody and has not been transferred to the United States, contrary to reports circulating on social media and other platforms.
He explained that efforts by the Majority Caucus to obtain bail for the MP had so far been unsuccessful.
“We’ve failed to secure bail for Asante Akyem North MP; so, he is still in Amsterdam in custody. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the extradition hearing will begin on 18th November, 2026,” Dafeamekpor stated.
The Majority Chief Whip also dismissed claims that Ohene Frimpong had already been transferred to the United States, stressing that the MP remains in the Netherlands.
The upcoming extradition hearing is expected to examine legal proceedings surrounding the request to transfer the Ghanaian parliamentarian to the United States. However, the specific allegations against him and the detailed grounds for the extradition request have not yet been fully disclosed by the parliamentary leadership.
