The National Lottery Authority (NLA) has presented a GH¢10 million dividend cheque to the Ministry of Finance for payment into Ghana’s Consolidated Fund.

The contribution, presented on October 2, 2026, represents the NLA’s first dividend payment to the government in nearly a decade and signals renewed efforts to improve revenue generation, transparency and operational efficiency.

NLA Presents GH¢10 Million Dividend

NLA Director-General Mohammed Abdul-Salam presented the cheque to the Minister for Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, during an official engagement.

The payment is expected to contribute to government revenue and support national development through the Consolidated Fund.

The resumption of dividend payments comes as the NLA undertakes reforms aimed at strengthening its financial performance and improving the management of lottery operations.

Finance Ministry Reviews NLA Revenue Agreements

While welcoming the GH¢10 million contribution, Finance Minister Dr Ato Forson indicated that the government expects greater returns from the national lottery sector.

He said the Ministry of Finance, working with the Office of the Attorney-General, is reviewing previous revenue-sharing arrangements, operational agreements and third-party contracts involving the NLA.

According to the Finance Minister, the review is intended to establish more effective and transparent arrangements that will ensure the state receives a fairer share of revenue generated from lottery operations.

The move forms part of broader government efforts to improve public revenue mobilisation and ensure that state-owned institutions contribute more effectively to Ghana’s economic development.

NLA Commits to Digital and Operational Reforms

The leadership of the National Lottery Authority has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening corporate governance, digital transformation and operational reforms within the lottery sector.

The NLA said the reforms are designed to support sustainable growth in lottery revenue and create a more predictable contribution to government finances.

The Authority’s renewed focus on efficiency and accountability is expected to strengthen its role in Ghana’s revenue mobilisation efforts while ensuring that lottery proceeds contribute more meaningfully to national development.

The GH¢10 million dividend payment marks a significant development in the NLA’s relationship with government and comes amid ongoing efforts to improve the financial performance of public institutions.
