A Yutong bus caught fire at Gbogdaa in the Savannah Region on Sunday, October 4, 2026, prompting a swift response from personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
The affected bus, with registration number GS 8482-17, was reportedly carrying electrical materials and other items when the fire broke out.
Engine Oil Leak Suspected in Yutong Bus Fire
Preliminary findings indicate that the bus fire may have started after an engine oil line split, causing oil to leak onto hot engine components.
The spilled oil is believed to have ignited, resulting in the fire spreading through parts of the vehicle.
GNFS firefighters arrived at the scene at about 8:30 a.m. and quickly began firefighting operations.
The fire was brought under control before firefighters successfully extinguished it completely at approximately 10:30 a.m.
Bus Sustains Extensive Fire Damage
The Yutong bus fire caused extensive damage to several sections of the vehicle.
The passenger compartment, roof, windows, seats and other components of the bus were badly affected by the fire.
Despite the extent of the damage, no casualties were recorded in the incident.
Authorities are continuing their assessment of the vehicle to establish the full extent of the damage.
Further investigations are also underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the Gbogdaa bus fire and confirm the cause of the incident.
The GNFS continues to urge vehicle owners and operators to ensure that vehicles are regularly inspected and maintained to reduce the risk of vehicle fires and road-related emergencies.
