In the approaching party flagbearer election, Mr. John Boadu, a former general secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), is asking members to vote against candidates who advocate that the administration has failed.

He has advised supporters to exercise caution when evaluating the reasons made by these candidates for top positions in the general elections of 2024.

Mr. Boadu issued a warning, saying it would be difficult to successfully represent any of these candidates to the public if they were to win the party’s flagbearer post.

He said that many of the critics of the government’s performance lacked specific strategies for furthering the party’s “break-the-eight” agenda, which aims to win an unprecedented third consecutive term in office.

His opinion is that these candidates’ hostile speech undermines their credibility. He made note of the fact that some of them find it difficult to recall the party’s accomplishments even when prompted during radio appearances, taking a long time to mention just one.

Mr. Boadu found it puzzling that prospective party leaders would act in such a manner.

Mr. Boadu voiced worry that it indicates a serious problem if these aspiring leaders cannot name even one good component of the party’s performance.

He noted that there is fierce competition among candidates, with each one vying for attention for certain accomplishments.

He noted that Alan Keyerematen is associated with the One-District-One-Factory concept, while Dr. Bawumia is given credit for digitalization.

Mr. Boadu criticized party supporters who assert that they haven’t had enough attention from the party and admonished them to be careful what they do.

On August 23, 2023, Mr. Boadu brought up these issues in an interview with Accra-based radio station Neat FM.
