The reported demise of retired Major Kwadwo Boakye Gyan. After a brief illness, he is said to have passed away on Wednesday, August 30.

The 1979 rebellion, which resulted in the overthrow of the Supreme Military Council (SMC II) government, is credited to Major (rtd) Boakye Gyan.

He oversaw Jerry John Rawlings’ release from custody as a crucial member of the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council (AFRC).

Major (ret.) Boakye-Gyan left Ghana during a significant portion of the Rawlings administration and didn’t return until John Agyekum Kufuor’s administration.

Later, he joined the National Democratic Congress (NDC), running for the party’s position as the Jaman South Constituency’s 2012 Parliamentary Candidate. Sadly, Yaw Afful, the incumbent member of parliament, won the election.
