Boakye Agyarko, a former minister of energy, withdrew after objecting to the party’s decision to allow only National Council members to vote in the run-off election between him and Francis Addai-Nimoh.

He argued that it was unlawful to permit only a small number of people to cast ballots in the run-off, and he warned the Committee Chair that he would not support such unconstitutionality.

The NPP announced in a statement dated August 31 that they had chosen to cancel the election, allowing Mr. Addai-Nimoh to run among the four other candidates who had already been elected in the November 4 primary.

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former Trade and Industry Minister Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, former Food and Agriculture Minister Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and Mr. Addai-Nimoh are the five individuals currently scheduled to compete on November 4.
