Phase II of the Ghana Card registration will start today, September 4, 2023, according to the National Identification Authority (NIA).
According to a statement made public, anyone in Ghana who is 15 years of age or older may register, and the first-time application process is free at any of the NIA’s 276 District Offices located around the nation.
There are NIA Regional Offices in Accra, Bolgatanga, Cape Coast, Dambai, Damongo, Goaso, Nalerigu, and Wa where you can also register for free.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the free service for first-time applicants will NOT be available in the following NIA Regional Offices which currently operate as Premium Registration Centers: Ho, Koforidua, Kumasi, Sunyani, Sefwi-Wiawso, Takoradi, Tamale and Techiman,” the statement added
A statutory cost of GH 34.50 would be charged for replacement and upgrade services at non-premium centers, according to NIA.
The Phase I registration period, which was supposed to last for 10 days [from August 28 to September 8 of 2023], was reportedly cut short due to an unusually low attendance, which prompted the start of the Phase II registration period.
The Controller and Accountant General’s Department’s estimate that between 250,000 and 260,000 Public Sector Workers on GoG Payroll would participate in the Phase I led to the decision to allot ten (10) days for that phase. Only 87 of the targeted recipients, however, showed up for registration.
“Thus Phase II of the registration exercise will begin tomorrow, Monday, 4th September 2023. This is to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in the use of public resources, and to ensure that other members of the public are able to access NIA’s services,” portions of statement indicated.
In the meantime, NIA has resumed providing Household and Institutional Registration services for homes with five or more Ghanaians and institutions with 50 or more Ghanaians at a cost of GH150 per application for the Household Registration and GH100 per applicant for the Institutional Registration.
