Richard Ofori’s fitness has Ghanaians on edge after the goalie was left out of Orlando Pirates’ lineup to face Amakhosi owing to an injury.
The 29-year-old will be aiming to recuperate in time as Ghana coach Otto Addo is due to name his final 26-man squad on Monday, November 14, 2022, only 10 days before the world championship.
The Carling Black Label Cup semifinal game between Orlando Pirates and Thabiso Monyane and Innocent Maela will be missed by Ofori, the team has announced.
Ofori has been included in the 55-person World Cup tentative squad. Joe Wollacott, who plays for League One team Charlton Athletic, and him are competing for the number one slot in Ghana’s squad as a result of his good performance for Pirates this season.
The Black Stars were placed in Group H with Uruguay, South Korea, and Portugal.
Prior to playing South Korea and Uruguay on November 28 and December 2, respectively, Ghana will play Portugal on November 24 in their opening match.
Before heading to Qatar for the World Cup, the Black Stars will meet Switzerland in an international friendly on November 17.
