The nation’s post-paid meter billing issues will all be resolved during a four-week campaign by the Electricity Company of Ghana.

The “fix the bill, pay the bill” campaign was launched in response to consumer complaints about inaccurate billing that they had been receiving for the previous several months.

The goal of the campaign, according to ECG’s External Communications Manager Laila Abubakari, is “to provide better services to our customers, prevent power theft, and ensure that our postpaid customers who owe us money are satisfied with our services,” as she put it in an interview with JoyNews.

She went on to say that recent months have seen problems with projected invoices as a result of the new billing procedure. Consequently, ECG employees will become meter readers and visit customers’ locations, including homes and businesses, to take readings from their meters.

The recorded readings will be used to determine the customers’ charge when the readings are obtained and confirmed.

Resolving the issues, in her words, will enable the “ECG to collect as much money as possible with the limited resources that we currently have.” Therefore, we are merely requesting that our clients read all of their meters and then offer them accurate bills as part of this new project that we are starting.

The electricity distributor is doing these kinds of activities for the third time this year.

The ECG conducted a revenue mobilization program from March to June in an effort to recover GH₵3.1 billion of the GHC 5.7 billion in debt that is owed by both governmental and private organizations.

Later, the business launched a second revenue recovery campaign targeted at domestic clients.
