President John Dramani Mahama is confident that the restoration of the La General Hospital will be completed and ready for commissioning by November 2027, following a site visit.
The President, accompanied by Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Minister of Health, praised contractors and employees for their consistent work, emphasising the necessity of maintaining pace in order to achieve the deadline.
He pointed out that the hospital’s protracted shutdown has put a significant burden on other medical facilities, highlighting how urgent it is to finish the project in order to give locals access to healthcare services again.
Additionally, the President described intentions to use Burma Camp’s COVID-era emergency center to manage urgent cases and shorten treatment delays.

He also emphasised how the government’s recently launched Free Primary Healthcare program is part of a larger effort to promote preventive healthcare.
The facility’s rehabilitation started in 2020, but finance and payment issues caused the project to halt, according to the Minister of Health.
He stated that after those problems were fixed, full work resumed in 2025.
According to Mr. Akandoh, the hospital will greatly improve healthcare delivery in the capital by serving over 50,000 people in La and the surrounding areas when it is finished.
