On his part, the Inspector-General of Police is confident that the several security organizations will guarantee that the 2024 elections are orderly and free of incidents.
“We want to assure my sister (EC Chairperson) that we will continue to work with my colleagues here to ensure that just as elections in the country, since I took over have been peaceful, the 2024 polls will be same,” he said.
Vice Admiral Seth Amoama, the Chief of Defense Staff, stated that the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) will be available to support the police and other security agencies providing background protection for the 2024 elections.
The army will not be directly involved in election security, but it will be available to support law enforcement if needed, according to the CDS.
“We in the armed forces commit to our constitutionally mandated duty to protect this country and prevent any aggression from outside the country and also from within, and we do so by air, by sea and by land, and even do at the peril of our lives,” he said.
“For the election proper, we may not be in the forefront of election duties but we will be in the background to support you the police service and other security services,” the CDS stated in regards to the 2024 elections. The military is prepared to respond appropriately when called upon, but I will hand off leadership of the actual election tasks to the security services. We’ll always be there in the background, ready to respond correctly when needed.
At the stakeholder meeting, Mrs. Jean Mensa, the chairperson of the Electoral Commission, thanked the security agencies for their assistance during the election process.
