Dorcas Affo-Toffey, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) representing Jomoro, has claimed that the two-year legal dispute over her seat was merely intended to keep her from carrying out her parliamentary duties.

A Sekondi High Court dismissed an election petition contesting her eligibility on Monday, November 21.

With reference to Article 48 of the Ivorian Nationality Code, the presiding court, Justice Dr. Richmond Ose, determined that the first respondent Affo-Toffey was qualified to challenge since she had fully complied with the procedures for her to renounce and lose her Ivorian citizenship.

As a result, the Sekondi high court today dismissed the frivolous case that questioned my nationality as a member of parliament for the good people of Jomoro, she wrote in a tweet in response to the decision. The only purpose of this two-year conflict was to keep me off my parliamentary obligations.

“I appreciate the unwavering support of H.E. John Dramani Mahama, Uncle Kofi Totobi Quakyi, and the NDC legal team, notably attorney Godwin Kudzo Tameklo.

The NDC minority caucus in parliament, all NDC executives at the national, regional, constituency, and branch levels, as well as the wonderful people of Jomoro and the whole NDC fraternity, have my deepest gratitude for their prayers and support.
