EC registers 522k new voters so far for the December 2024 general elections

According to the Electoral Commission (EC), as of Sunday, May 19, there were 522,025 registered voters nationwide.

When the distribution of votes is broken down by region, the Greater Accra area has 74,420 voters, or 14.3% of the total.

14,147 voters, or 2.7% of the total, were registered in the Northeast area.

Twenty,135 voters, or 3.9% of the total, were reported from the Upper East region, and 47,948 voters, or 9.2%, from the Northern region.

During a news conference on Tuesday in Accra, Mr. Samuel Tetteh, the Deputy Commissioner in charge of operations at the EC, revealed this information.

Additionally, Mr. Tetteh emphasized that the Bono area had 20,886 registered voters (4%), Bono East had 18,861 voters (3.6%), Volta had 26,486 voters (5.1%), and Upper West had 15,652 voters (4.0%). There were 48,563 votes (9.3%) in the Eastern region and 56,141 voters (10.8%) in the Central region.

Additionally, the following regions had recorded voter counts: Ahafo (10,861 voters, 2.1%); Ashanti (90,480 voters, 17.3%); Western North (16,225 voters, 3.1%); Oti (14,844 voters, 2.8%); Savannah (12,767 voters, 2.4%); and Western (33,609 voters, 6.4%).

Tetteh provided information on the gender breakdown of the total registered voters, stating that 275,570 were female (52.79%) and 246,455 were male (47.21%).
